  Visit myNCRetirement.gov to read important information about your benefits in retirement.

  Nearing Retirement

  Within 12 months of your retirement date, schedule a virtual one-on-one with a benefits counselor

  Schedule an appointment and gather important documents that you would like to discuss during your meeting. This includes 

  • a Custom Benefit Estimate generated in ORBIT,
  • your most recent MARS (Member Annual Retirement Statement),
  • NC 401(k) and/or NC 457 Plans’ statements and
  • Social Security Benefits Statement

  Review your beneficiaries for all accounts and benefits

  Review your beneficiaries for each benefit in ORBIT, NC 401(k) and NC 457 Plans and any other benefit or account you may have. Updating your beneficiaries in one area does not automatically update your election with all accounts. It is important to review each account and benefit to make sure you have designated the person(s) you intended.
